Recipe of "Potol Peyaj Posto"

In today's cooking I have taken a vegetable which is known as potol / parwal / pointed gourd which is found mostly in India. Vegetable are always good for health.  So making a vegan preparation at home would be nice.  If the recipe is new but very easy to make with the details given then there is always room for trying new things.  
I am sure if someone open to new menu for meal would welcome this item made of pointed gourd / potol / parwal, onion and posto(white poppy seeds).
Potol peyaj posto

Ingredients:

  • Potol / Parwal - 500 grams
  • Onion - 2 big sized
  • Tomato  - 2 medium sized
  • Posto / White Poppy Seeds - 50 grams
  • Turmeric powder - 1 and 1/2 teaspoon
  • Green chili - 7/8 pieces
  • Chili powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Salt to taste
  • Cooking oil 

How to make:

  • Peel the pointed gourd / potol / and cut little into both the sides. Mix it with little salt and turmeric powder and keep it aside.

  • Cut Onion and Tomato and keep aside.

  • Grind poppy seeds and green chili and keep it ready.

  • Now after all the ingredients are ready, put a pan on fire and heat it.
  • Once the pan is heated, pour 2 tablespoon oil and heat it.
  • Fry Pointed gourd / potol / parwal  for 2 minutes in oil then keep it aside.

  • Heat 3 tablespoon oil and fry Onion in medium flame till it is brown in color.
  • Add tomato and cook for 2 minutes.

  • Then add salt to taste, turmeric powder, and chili powder, also if you want then add little sugar to have a flavor.
  • Cook for few minutes till the spices are cooked and add grinded poppy seeds and green chili.
  • Cook for few minutes, and then add pointed gourd / potol into it.
  • Mix it with spices nicely; add little water into it so the taste of spices mixes with all potol in the pan. 
  • Let it cook for few minutes
  • Once you feel that the spices are properly entered into pointed gourd potol, put off the fire.
  • Your "Potol Peyaj Posto" is ready to serve with rice, roti or chapati.

Different name of pointed gourd in India:

  • In Bengal, Assam and Odisha; it is called potol or patal.
  • Hindi it's said "parwal"
  • In Gujrati and Marathi it's called "parval"
  • Telugu it's called kommu potla/ chedu potla
  • Tamil name is kambupudalai
  • In Kannada it's called kaadu padaval, kadu padavala kayi.
  • Malayalam it's said "patolam".
  • Scientific name of this pointed gourd is "trisanthes dioica".

Nutrients Value

Potol has got some nutrients value.  It is rich in vitamins and minerals.  It is also good for gastric problem. Fruits roots and leaves of this plant is used to make ayurvedic medicine.

Recipe of Honey Chicken

Today Here I am adding a special non veg recipe.  In  today's preparation we have chicken with honey and I can feel your mouth is already watery listening to the title of it.

This dish can be used as starter or like small meal with salad.


Honey Chicken



Ingredient:

  • Boneless Chicken : 500 gms
  • Honey:  100 gms
  • Onion:  4 medium sized
  • Garlic: 15/20 midium sized pieces
  • Ginger:10 gms
  • Pepper powder : 1 teaspoon
  • Chili powder : 1 teaspoon
  • Vinegar : 2 tablespoon
  • Salt to taste

How to make:

  1. First clean the chicken and keep it aside,
  2. Take the onion, garlic and ginger make a paste.
  3. Add this paste into chicken, salt as per taste, a little touch of sugar for taste, pepper powder, chili powder and vinegar. 
  4. Mix it nicely and keep in refrigerator.  Let it marinate for overnight.
  5. Next day take out the marinated chicken
  6. Heat a pan and pour enough oil to shallow fry those chicken pieces.
  7. After frying those chicken keep it aside.
  8. Take a different pan heat it up and pour the honey in it.
  9. Add the fried chicken into it.
  10. Mix it nicely and take it out of fire.
  11. Honey chicken is ready.
  12. It is ready to serve with salad or just simply alone.

Recipe of Fried Soupy Noodles

When I think about breakfast or small meal or snacks, instant noodles comes in my mind.  We are so much attached to instant noodles which is known as 2 minutes noodles.  As it is cooked very easily and handy while we are very hungry.

I have my own special way of making this instant noodle more healthier, tastier and mouth watery.  

Fried Soupy Noodles

Ingredients: 

  • 1 packet of 2 minutes noodle (it has 2 portion in it)
  • 1 Onion 
  • 1 Tomato
  • 1 Egg
  • Capsicum (if you have)
  • Sweet corn  (if you have)
  • Carrot  (if you have)
  • Peas  (if you have)
         

How to make:

  • Chop the onion, tomato and capsicum, carrot into small pieces  keep it aside.
  • Boil 2 mugs of water add noodle into it with the taste maker.
  • Cook it till it is cooked and don't drain the remaining water.
  • Take another pan and heat oil in it add Onion into it fry it  for 1 minute in medium flame
  • Add capsicum, sweetcorn, carrot, peas into it and cook for 2 minutes
  • Add half teaspoon of soya sauce and chili sauce into it.
  • Make space in between the pan and put little oil in it wait for few seconds for oil to heat it.
  • break the egg and place it in middle of the pan on oil.  
  • Scramble the egg and mix it with vegetable
  • Now add the cooked noodles into the pan and don't throw the water but add into it.
  • mix everything in the pan with noodles and vegetables nicely.
  • It is ready to serve hot.

Recipe of Health Drinks

In my last recipe of making curd, I have mentioned about making cool drinks recipe with curd.  Here I have some recipe very easy to make at home in the summer heat.  Hope you enjoy it while reading as well while making it at home practically.  

Today we are going to have a recipe of cool drink.  it is very refreshing and also feels your stomach.  in hot summer afternoon when you don't feel like eating much this can help you to feel your stomach as well satisfy your mind with tasty buttermilk/ chaach/ ghol or lassi.

Chach

Lassi

Ingredients:

  • Curd
  • Cold water/ normal plain water
  • salt or  sugar
  • fresh corriemdar leaves:cut it  and keep aside
  • lemon

How to make:

  • To make 2 glass of drink you need to take 2 glass of cold water or normal plain water, whatever you want.  I mentioned about normal water because many people heave tonsils problem and don't want to have cold water from refrigerator.
  • Take 4 tablespoon of curd in a big pot/ handi/ pan.
  • batter it nicely.
    Battered Curd
  • Add water in the battered curd / yogurt.
  • Squeeze lemon in it and it would give a nice flavor of lemon and add salt for taste.
Until here is common steps now I would divide it in two parts as follows: 
  • Salted drink as buttermilk and 
  • Sweet drink as lassi.

To make Buttermilk (chach):

  • Add coriander leaves and a pinch of roasted jeera powder to add flavour into the drink
  • Our buttermilk is ready.
To make Sweet drink (Lassi):
  • Add sugar 3 tablespoon for two glass of lassi and mix it nicely with the drink.
  • Our lassi is ready

Recipe of Homemade Curd / Yogurt (Dahi)

As the summer heat is pricking very badly now in India, we need something to hydrate ourselves very much in this heat specially big cities like ; Kolkata, Chennai, Mumbai, Delhi and surrounded areas. Apart from plain water we can have some fruit juices, lemon water, tender coconut which all are rich source of plenty of water which require in our body.

Todoay I am talking about a food recipe which can be used as a drink or can be used to eat with rice for main course mainly in South India & Bengal.  It is curd or yogurt.  In hindi we say, "dahi", in bengali we say "doi".  Many name in many language but the work is same.  it helps to cool you in this hot summer.



Homemade Curd



How to make Curd or yogurt at home:

  1. Get 1 liter milk and bring it to boil in a medium flame. Then keep a side to cool it down.

  2. Take two table spoon of curd in it and stir it nicely.

  3. When the milk is lukewarm that is the best time to add the kept curd in it and stir well to let the curd get mix in milk nicely.
  4. after that keep the pot a side.
  5. Depending on the temperature and weather of the place it take 4/8  hours to set curd or yogurt.

  6. After it is set you can keep it in refrigerator to be more refreshing when it is cold.

Make another recipe Idea:

  • It is ready to eat with rice or 
  • As dessert with sugar or 
  • as drink to mix with water and salt or 
  • As drink to mix with water and sugar.
